Students had fun on Halloween, some choosing to dress up & cheering on the younger kids in our school wide parade. In math we did some spooky riddles to stretch their thinking & ended the day with a grade 5/6 stem challenge.

This week we welcomed Ms. Brown our student teacher from the University of Calgary to our classroom. She will be with us till mid-December & again in February till April. She will be slowly teaching some classes and helping out within the classroom. We are really excited to have her join our classroom.

We continued to work on multiplication & division in both grade 5 & 6. In grade 5 we will be focusing on division for the next few weeks. On Wedesday due to the snow we had a whole group math class, this was a lot of fun, students were able to work with others that they do not normally work with. Students had various challenges to work on.

In writing we are starting a new unit on Fractured Fairytales. Students looked at various fairytale picture books & began to look at twisted versions of fairytales. We developed criteria of what the characteristics of a fairytale include & will be planning our own fractured fairytales next week.

We will be moving on from introducing Democracy to looking at democracy in Athens for social studies.

Please remember to have your child dressed for the weather as they go outside daily and to limit the amound of candy your child is bringing to school.
