  Students started their Book Clubs   this week. They are in mixed groups with other students from Ms. Field & Ms. Baker's class. The expectation of this task is to come prepared to the Book Club with their book read up to the page recorded and their job done as well. As part of this task they will also be writing a Literature Circle response every week, which is due on Monday . Students have really liked working with students from the other classes and reading books from different genres then they are used to.  For writing we have been working on topic sentences, concluding sentences and supporting details. WE began to incorporate the above into paragraphs. This is in preparation for essay writing. Students will be working on research and picking a topic next week and writing our essays after spring break.  In Math, both the grade 5's & 6's had quizzes on Thursday, they will bring them home on Monday to show you.   Thank you to everyone for joining us at both in person and online conferences. I love getting to see your children sharing thier learning with you and having conversations with you.  Homework: Students need to read their book club book up to the page selected and do their job for Monday's first day. Social Iroquois Slideshow Math (practicing multiplication, division and reviewing what we have been doing with fractions) Upcoming Content: Chemistry  Applying and evaluate a variety of techniques for separating different materials and mixtures & making crystals.  Math continuing with fractions and then connecting fractions to decimals in grade 5.  Grade 6 math fractions, decimals and percentages  Social continuing with the Iroquois Confederacy and then we will be moving onto learning about the Canadian Charter and then local government We will be learning about writing a 5 paragraph essay in writing Website for grade 6 students to practice for the May/June PAT's  https:

  We have had a busy week with different types of learning.  In math , both grade 5 & 6's have been learning about fractions. In grade 5 we have been learning about benchmark fractions (fractions that we can used to compare other fractions 1/4, 1/2, 3/4) how to make equivilent fractions and have begun ordering fractions with different denominators on a number line. In grade 6 Ms. Baker's group is communicating their knowledge of fractions; mixed numbers and improper fractions in a Flip Grid. Ms. Fields' group have been working on the same but through plotting on a number line and working on a Pixel assignment.  Chemistry is our new unit in Science , students learned new vocabulary, and have been looking at states of matter.
