We have had a busy week with different types of learning.

In math, both grade 5 & 6's have been learning about fractions. In grade 5 we have been learning about benchmark fractions (fractions that we can used to compare other fractions 1/4, 1/2, 3/4) how to make equivilent fractions and have begun ordering fractions with different denominators on a number line. In grade 6 Ms. Baker's group is communicating their knowledge of fractions; mixed numbers and improper fractions in a Flip Grid. Ms. Fields' group have been working on the same but through plotting on a number line and working on a Pixel assignment.

Chemistry is our new unit in Science, students learned new vocabulary, and have been looking at states of matter. Next week we will be working on mixtures and separations.

Students have been researching and learning about the Iroquois Confederacy the different groups that were a part of it, their customs, what type of government they had and if it was fair and equitable. They will be comparing this form of governing to Athens and later on our Canadian Government.

We went to the Nickle Gallery at the UofC Wednesday afternoon to look at art from Metis Artist David Garneau. There were two other exhibits on Alexander the Great Coins and Turkish rugs. Students used a journalling technique and were lucky to see other great Indigenous artists such as Alex Janvier and Christi Belcourt.

We are continuing to work on students looking at success criteria, exemplars and rubrics to enhance their learning, when to ask questions and how to challenge themselves academically. Building stamina in writing is also an area of growth. Next week, we will be looking at the newspaper articles that we have written and pick one to revise and publish.

Thrusday afternoon was our 2nd school wide Take Me Outside Day, it was a great success with students playing Indigenous Games led by our student teachers, building sculptures in the snow, painting in the snow, looking through binoculars and walking around the pond. I am really proud how my students interact with their buddies as leaders.

We will be continuing our outdooor learning, wtih weekly community walks Wednesday's after lunch.

We will be having a hybrid approach to conferences next week (in person & online). Mr. Lang has sent out information on it via email.  Thursday evening is in person and student led, if there is not a time slot available for you but you would still like to attend that evening, please let me know and I can add you in. Friday will be online only. Contact me if you are unable to attend any of the dates/times and would like to book at a different time or have a phone conversation. I'd be happy to set something else up.
