February is Black History Month, we will be exploring and learning about Black Canadians. The goal of these activities is to give students the opportunity to learn about the ways Black Canadians have contributed to Canadian History and culture.

We will be doing gymnastics for the next week, students must have on appropriate clothing and have their hair tied back.

Here is the Learn Alberta student resource that may be useful to use at home, there are interactive activities and printable resources as as well https://curriculum.learnalberta.ca/student-learning-hub/en/home

Some of the topics that we will be covering in the future are:

Chemistry:

Students learn about the properties and interactions of some safe to handle household liquids and solids. They test a variety of materials to see what happens when things are mixed together: what dissolves, what reacts and what remains unaffected. They discover that when a solid material dissolves, it can be recovered as a crystal by evaporating the liquid. They also learn that when two materials react to form a new material, the original materials cannot be recovered. As an example of a chemical reaction, students learn to produce carbon dioxide gas and show that this gas differs from ordinary air.

Iroquois Confederacy:

When making decisions, The Iroquois Confederacy used a method that was different from that of the Ancient Greeks. In some ways it was very similar and yet also very different. In this unit, we introduce the democratic nature and customs of the Iroquois (Haudenosaunee) Society and explain how social and political structures allowed all people to participate in the decision-making process.
