Even though we were stuck inside this week we were kept busy.
This week we created skits connected to Pink Shirt Day and how to be a good friend. We even had a read aloud from Mrs. Kim that day.
We learned about the Wampum Belt and their design for different Treaties and started a new Google slides project about the Iroquois Confederacy.
In science, we practiced the scientific method, introduced to our lab groups and practiced creating a experiment and following through with using the scientific method. Next week we will start learning more about Chemistry and doing experiments.
Grade 6's have continued their work with fractions and ordering and comparing fractions with unlike denominators. In grade 5, students build different fractions with pattern blocks and used this to connect to equivalent fractions.
In writing we are continuing with newspaper writing and learned new ways to start an introduction by asking questions or starting with a quote. We also examined exemplars of old PAT articles and graded them according to the PAT rubric.
We are almost finished our article presentations only 2 more to go on Monday. We have loved learning about all sorts of topics, with interesting presentations and guided questions. This is helping students summarize as well as exposing them to newspaper structure to connect to our newspaper writing in class.
Students wrote their unit test yesterday for our Sky Science unit. Their grades were released to their Google accounts, where they can see the correct answers to the questions and see what they may have missed. We will be continuing to work on test taking skills, reading test questions and slowing down as we continue to build our test taking repertoire.
Enjoy the warmer weather this weekend.
